A visitor made at least one visit on the website. Depending on the analysis visitors are counted either unique or unique per time interval (e.g. day/week/month).
- Visitors in analyses without trend
In analyses, that don't show a trend, visitors are displayed as unique.
A visitor accesses a page on 3 different days. In the list view of the pages analysis he is counted once.
- Visitors in analyses with trend
In analyses, that show a trend (e.g. with the dimension "Days"), visitors are displayed unique per time unit.
A visitor accesses a page on 3 different days. In the list view of the pages analysis (on daily basis) he is counted on every day, on which he accesses the page.
Identification of a visitor
Visitors are identified based on cookies and/or the customer ID, that is submitted by the pixel.
- Based on cookies
When a user accesses the website, a cookie is set with an ID. Based on this cookie, the user will be recognized during future visits. If the user deletes his cookies or uses different devices/browser, he will be displayed as a new visitor. If a user does not have cookies activated, Webtrekk is using a so called fingerprint method. The fingerprint is generated from the IP address and the user agent (contains e.g. browser, monitor resolution...).
- Based on customer ID (User Centric Tracking)
Based on the submitted customer ID the user is identified. Usually, it is submitted to Webtrekk encryptedly at login. This enable a cross browser and cross device analysis. User Centric Tracking has to be activated in the configuration of Webtrekk ("Webtrekk Q3 > Configuration > System Configuration > Data Collection").
